goodbye flying saucers, hello flying sitars

Tomorrow, in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Deep Space Network, NASA will attempt its first interstellar serenade. And the song of choice? John Lennon and Paul McCartney's "Across the Universe," also celebrating its 40th birthday. Those rocket scientists sure are clever.

At 4p.m. PST, NASA will broadcast an mp3-version from an antennae in Madrid towards the North Star. Let's hope that in 431 years (the time it will take to transmit over 2.5 quadrillion miles) the Beatles fans in Polaris will have their radios working.

"Send my love to the aliens," says McCartney.
