On Tuesday, American and European astronauts inaugurated the Columbus science laboratory, which is the most recent addition to the International Space Station and Europe’s largest contribution. The laboratory, which cost about $2 billion, was delivered last weekend and installed Monday during a spacewalk. The 14-ton laboratory brings the space station a step closer to completion. NASA has set a deadline of 2010 for finishing construction.
