Astronomers at the University of Sussex are predicting that the Sun will destroy the Earth in approx. 7.6 billion years unless we can somehow change our planet's orbit. Apparently the previous prediction was that the Earth wouldn't be completely destroyed, just "battered and burnt to a cinder"; however, they weren't taking into account the "drag" that is caused by the Sun's outer atmosphere.
