Record Breaking Gamma Ray

NASA's high energy Swift Observatory caught new images of gamma ray bursts. In fact, the new images display the most powerful bursts ever observed. The record breaking bursts are the most violent and luminous the universe has ever seen. The Swift Observatory caught the bursts in orbit, while ground based cameras also saw the flare of light; it peaked at visual magnitude 5.4. The burst, known as GRB 080319B, occurred on the morning of March 19th. The optical afterglow was 2.5 million times more luminous than the most luminous supernova ever recorded.
