Only 364 Days...

Yesterday was International Sidewalk Astronomy Night, a grass-roots effort to share the beauty of the night sky with pedestrians with the use of sidewalk telescopes. The Sidewalk Astronomers, a group led by John Dobson, make an effort to include the public in their astronomical observations by setting up telescopes along the sidewalks in pedestrian-rich areas (for example, Pasadena, California). ISAN (International Sidewalk Astronomy Night) was started by Donna Smith, a member of the Sidewalk Astronomers. Last year the event pulled together 500 telescopes, 1,000 amateurs, and 25,000 community members at 154 locations in 28 countries.
